About the Role

The Senior Social Media Manager is a leadership position responsible for managing OMG’s social media department operations and personnel. This role shares co-management responsibility with the Director of Client Strategy for supervising, developing, and directing two Social Media Account Managers. You will establish department standards, drive strategic vision, ensure quality control across all client accounts, and serve as the senior subject matter expert for social media strategy within the agency.

This position requires a proven leader who can balance hands-on client work with team management, process development, and strategic planning. You will be responsible for your team’s performance, professional development, workload distribution, and successful client outcomes while maintaining excellence in agency operations.

This is an in-person position based out of our office in north Phoenix, Arizona. Please do not apply if you are not able to work in the office five days a week.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Co-manage two Social Media Account Managers alongside the Director of Client Strategy
  • Conduct weekly one-on-ones with direct reports to review performance, provide coaching, and address challenges
  • Oversee workload distribution, project assignments, and capacity planning across the social media team
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of social media staff
  • Establish performance metrics and conduct regular evaluations of direct reports
  • Mentor team members in strategic thinking, client management, and professional growth
  • Resolve team conflicts and escalated client issues effectively
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture

Strategic Leadership & Quality Oversight

  • Set department standards for strategy development, content quality, and client deliverables
  • Review and approve major strategic recommendations before client presentation
  • Conduct quality audits of content calendars, client reports, and social media output
  • Identify opportunities for service expansion and new revenue generation
  • Lead development of social media best practices, playbooks, and standard operating procedures
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and ensure team is trained on emerging platforms and tactics
  • Represent the social media department in agency leadership discussions and planning sessions
  • Collaborate with Director of Client Strategy on department goals, resource allocation, and strategic priorities

Client & Account Management

  • Serve as senior point of contact for key accounts and escalated client situations
  • Lead client strategy sessions and quarterly business reviews for top-tier accounts
  • Identify and pursue upsell opportunities across the client portfolio
  • Maintain high client satisfaction and retention rates
  • Step in to manage critical client accounts as needed

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure all client deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines
  • Optimize workflows, processes, and systems for maximum efficiency
  • Collaborate with creative team to establish smooth production processes
  • Monitor team utilization and identify resource needs
  • Maintain proficiency in Sprout Social, Monday.com, and other agency tools
  • Prepare department reports and insights for agency leadership

Hands-On Social Media Work

  • Maintain active involvement in strategic planning and content development for select accounts
  • Write, edit, and approve high-stakes or sensitive content
  • Serve as the highest-level reviewer for all social media work before publication
  • Create advanced social strategies for complex client needs
  • Demonstrate best-in-class execution to set standards for the team

Required Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field strongly preferred
  • 5-7+ years experience in social media management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role
  • Proven track record of managing direct reports and developing high-performing teams
  • Experience working in an agency environment managing multiple client accounts
  • Portfolio demonstrating strategic success and measurable results across diverse client accounts

Leadership & Management Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop team members
  • Experience conducting performance reviews, managing workload, and resolving personnel issues
  • Strong decision-making skills with ability to balance competing priorities
  • Excellent delegation skills while maintaining quality oversight
  • Ability to give constructive feedback and drive accountability
  • Experience hiring and onboarding new team members

Industry Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of firearms, outdoors, hunting, fishing, and defense industries
  • Robust knowledge of social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, TikTok, Reddit
  • Advanced understanding of platform algorithms, best practices, and emerging trends
  • Awareness of firearms regulations, compliance requirements, and advertising restrictions

Technical & Strategic Skills

  • Expert proficiency with Sprout Social (or similar enterprise social media management platforms)
  • Advanced social analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision making
  • Strategic planning and long-term campaign development
  • Strong project management and operational planning abilities
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Monday.com, or similar tools
  • Budget management and resource allocation experience

  • Previous experience as a manager or team lead in a marketing agency
  • MBA or advanced degree in marketing, communications, or business
  • Experience managing teams through periods of growth or transformation
  • Direct experience with enterprise-level social media campaigns (1M+ followers)
  • Speaking engagements or published thought leadership in social media or firearms/outdoors industries
  • Established network of industry contacts and relationships
  • Personal participation in competitive shooting, hunting, or outdoor sports
  • Experience training and developing junior marketers

Compensation & Benefits

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM (in-office)

Salary: Starting at $65,000 per year (based on experience and qualifications)
